After the shaky start of this series with Shadow’s Edge, I honestly wasn’t sure I was going to stick with this series. Nevertheless, I persisted, and I’m happy to say that I gave Edge of Oblivion a solid chance. With a fast paced plot, an enticing bodyguard romance, and additional interesting world building, this book embarked on a redemption tour that was well worth the time.
Plot Summary
There exists a world beyond our own. It is a world of ancient magic and well-guarded secrets, a world of strict laws and harsh punishments for those who betray them, a world inhabited by the Ikati, a race of gifted people who are so much more than they first appear. Brought together by fate in this world of danger and beauty, two people with dark pasts will meet.

Quality of Writing

I’ll be honest, Edge of Oblivion still gives off some of those mild Wattpad vibes, but the actual writing is a massive step up from the first book. Everything felt way more polished this time around. Also, shout out to the narrator, as the voice acting was drastically improved! The male voice was much smoother and actually sounding convincing, which made the whole experience way more immersive.
Plot Development

I absolutely loved the Rome setting of Edge of Oblivion. It gave the whole story a high intensity spy movie vibe that was super addictive. Side note, turns out I’m a total sucker for a good bodyguard romance. The introduction of the Expergari was another highlight for me – I really liked how they fit into the shifter society as these complex antagonists/antiheros. It kept things interesting from start to finish.
Characters
Rating: 5/5
Morgan and Xander’s romance in Edge of Oblivion was leaps and bounds better than the first book. It was fiery and filled with so much tension, but thankfully didn’t go overboard with the whole “mate” trope. The author also did a fabulous job setting up the duo for the next book. The set up felt totally natural and has me genuinely excited for what’s to come.
Ease of Reading

I did struggle a bit with the POV shifts in Edge of Oblivion, especially while listening to the audio – it wasn’t always obvious who was talking! I also noticed the narrator went rogue with some frequency and deviated from the written text a few times when I was following along, which definitely threw off my groove on more than one occasion!
Ending
Rating: 4/5
The ending of Edge of Oblivion gave me major Jason Statham action movie vibes with the last minute intensity, and I mean for that to be complimentary. I also enjoyed that the couple for book three got some time to shine toward the end – it was the perfect set up to keep the momentum of this series going.
Would I Recommend This Book
Solid yes. This was way more fun and much better written than the first book. I went from being totally on the fence about this series to actually being excited to see what happens next. If you like high stakes romance with a side of spy movie energy, definitely give Edge of Oblivion a shot.
Overall Rating
To my delight, the writing and voice acting were a massive improvement this time around. The high stakes spy plot kept things going, and the romance was way more compelling than in the first book. While I did run into some slight confusion with the POV shifts and the narrator going off script from the text, the wild and action packed ending totally made up for it and set the stage perfectly for the next book.
