Review: A Bond So Fierce And Fragile By Sophia St. Germain

If you’ve been following along with my reviews on this series, you already know I’m obsessed. A Bond So Fierce And Fragile takes everything I loved about the first two books, cranks it up a notch, and delivers a jolt of emotional turmoil. Between a deadly (literally) prophecy and a looming war, the stakes are ever higher and the story even bigger.

Plot Summary

Torture. Darkness. Loss.

That’s what the Fae king has planned to break her.

But Elessia is prepared to fight.

She is ready to fight her way out of the king’s claws, fight to save Havlands from rebels and Fae alike, and above all, fight to return to the one she loves.

But in the end, it’s her own life she might need to fight for the most, and even though her mate will do anything, including rip the entire world to shreds, to keep her safe, there is nowhere to hide when the gods themselves are after you.

Quality of Writing

The writing quality of A Bond So Fierce And Fragile is off the charts as per usual, just like the first 2 books. Everything is consistently super clear with no bizarre plot holes, and any questions that pop up get answered quickly enough that you don’t lose track of everything going on. I’ve also been peeping more easter eggs tucked away that do a great job of foreshadowing future reveals.

Plot Development

In A Bond So Fierce And Fragile, the plot pacing was a tiny bit of a roller coaster. There were these sudden bursts of intense action every few chapters, but then things would slow down quite a bit in between. It did feel like the story was being stretched out a little more than necessary, but even with the wonky timing, the actual developments were still super interesting and engaging.

I really liked that we got more POVs in A Bond So Fierce And Fragile this time around – they felt super intentional and not at all like filler for the sake of it. I’ll be honest, Merrick and Elessia’s relationship is starting to feel a little over the top for me, but they’re still a couple that I’m happy to root for. Also, despite my best efforts to resist, Loche is finally growing on me, and I’m hoping to see more development with his regency and mating bond with Iviry.

Ease of Reading

Some of the back and forth pacing made a few chapters throughout A Bond So Fierce And Fragile a little harder to power through, mostly because they felt a bit extra. That being said, the book still goes down pretty easy, much like the first two. It definitely feels like it’s suffering from a bit of middle book syndrome, but for the third book in a four part series, I can easily forgive that!

Ending

The ending of A Bond So Fierce And Fragile was so incredibly heart wrenching, but in the best way possible! I loved how it tied back into the prophecy, showing how consistent this series is when it comes to the overall storyline. And that twist with how Elessia’s life was saved? Totally didn’t see it coming. I am super hyped for the last book and am pumped to see how the rest of the prophecy plays out.

Would I Recommend This Book

Of course, one thousand percent! This series is quickly moving up the ranks to become one of my all time favorites. Since it’s book three of four, I’d be silly not to tell you to keep going – it’s a must read if you’ve made it this far.

Overall Rating

While the pacing was a bit of a struggle at times, and some parts felt like they could’ve been trimmed down, the new POVs were a total game changer and added so much depth to the story. They also gave a much needed break from the mildly over the top mushiness between Elessia and Merrick. Even though it was a slightly slower read in spots, the story maintains its consistency with zero plot holes, and the emotional ending has me absolutely desperate for the last book and ultimate conclusion.
